VICTORY! Ending Jew hatred in the workplace

Dear friends,

The Lawfare Project has secured yet another victory for Jewish civil rights in the workplace.

A major hospital system with Christian affiliation sent company-wide emails during the Easter holiday featuring biblical language that has been used for centuries to denigrate Jews, and justify Jew hatred and allegations of deicide. After a Jewish surgeon expressed discomfort with these emails, he was met with swift retaliation, including threats to cut his salary, public humiliation, and derogatory comments. Put simply, he was forced to experience alienation and harassment due to his Jewish identity.

The Lawfare Project stepped in to protect the surgeon from the retaliatory measures that were being taken against him and, more broadly, to deter the hospital from engaging in action that creates a hostile environment for Jewish employees. As the case now comes to a close, we are proud to announce that these goals have all been achieved.

We have reached a settlement agreement with the hospital that provides for monetary compensation for the surgeon's struggle and protects him from future retaliation. In addition, the hospital has agreed to never again disseminate the offensive emails. This represents a win for all current and future healthcare professionals working at the hospital.

Unfortunately, as anti-Semitism persists in the workplace, this case is just one of many involving discrimination against Jewish employees. This case was especially troubling given the pandemic, when our hospitals should be places of healing and comfort, not hostility. As The Lawfare Project works to hold employers accountable and bring justice to the Jewish community, we hope to lay the foundation for better work standards that treat all individuals with respect and tolerance.

Thank you for being a supporter of The Lawfare Project. Together, we will continue protecting the rights of Jewish professionals in the workplace.

Sincerely,

Brooke Goldstein
