Overview: The Social Media Specialist's primary responsibility is to grow The Lawfare Project’s brand visibility and audience across all social platforms. They will accomplish this by developing an overall social media strategy and innovative social media campaigns to promote our content, and by creating unique and engaging original content. This person must be a strong communicator with a deep understanding of best practices, engagement strategies, and current and emerging trends across all major social media, as well as experience working with influencers and content creators.

The chosen candidate will use analytics tools to identify trending topics, increase social media effectiveness and track overall performance. They will also contribute to overall digital efforts, including content development and coverage.

The ideal Social Media Manager is a strong, engaging writer with experience creating unique content aimed at a younger audience. They must have excellent news judgment, attention to detail, and organizational ability, as well as a firm grasp of how younger news consumers use existing and emerging platforms. The right candidate has experience working on breaking news deadlines and thrives in a fast-paced environment. They know how to identify stories that matter to The Lawfare Project’s audience.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with The Lawfare Project’s team to develop and implement a social media strategy across all platforms

  • Create original, accurate, and compelling social media copy and assets — including graphics and videos — for Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, and TikTok – Multiple in-feed and story concepts per week

  • Proficiency crafting content that communicates complex concepts simply

  • Effective and quick communication

  • Stay on top of relevant news

  • Monitor relevant social media messages and respond throughout the day

  • Monitor social media trends and identify opportunities to optimize an evolving strategy

  • Develop weekly and monthly reports on social media data, performance, and learnings, with a focus on analytics and insights to drive optimization

Requirements:

  • 4+ years of social media management experience

  • Proficiency in all social media platforms (Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, TikTok)

  • Experience creating content on breaking news deadlines

  • Excellent writing and editorial skills

  • Organized and able to handle multiple projects, and have a system so that you can be counted on to keep things from falling through the cracks

  • Graphic design and video editing skills

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Excellent news judgment

  • Current knowledge of copyright laws related to social media publishing
