ALERT: Jewish professor run off campus, The Lawfare Project takes up the fight

Dear friends,

I am proud to announce that The Lawfare Project has taken on a new case defending a Holocaust survivor and university professor for over 50 years, who was targeted by fellow faculty, staff, and students simply because she advocated for non-biased education regarding Israel and the Arab-Israeli conflict.

It all began when Dr. Channa Newman, an Israeli citizen and distinguished professor at Point Park University, hired Dr. Robert Ross to work in her department at the University. Dr. Newman was unaware that Dr. Ross was tied to several anti-Zionist groups and had come to the University with a mission to foster hateful ant-Zionist, pro-BDS views on campus. Dr. Ross attempted to establish a class called "Israel: A Settler State," preached discriminatory propaganda in several of his courses, and used his platform as a professor to indoctrinate his students with misinformation about Israel and the Arab-Israeli conflict.

When Dr. Newman objected, she became the target of a vicious campaign aimed at forcing her to resign. She was ridiculed, humiliated, and vilified on campus and, when she refused to acquiesce to the harassment and leave the University, the fight against her escalated. She was accused of an utterly baseless Title IX violation and, without warning or due process, the University banned her from campus and stripped her of her teaching and administrative duties as Department Chair. It was not until Dr. Newman hired civil rights attorney James Lieber to defend her that it was concluded that there was not a shred of evidence to constitute a possible Title IX violation. The University was forced to reinstate Dr. Newman, as required by law, but she continues to be shunned and demonized by faculty and students.

Ziporah Reich, The Lawfare Project's Director of Litigation, has joined Dr. Newman's legal team as co-counsel to help her seek justice and demand accountability from the University for this chain of events, which resulted in loss of stature and a hostile work environment.
