BREAKING: Possible disparity of treatment by law enforcement in LA Jewish neighborhood, The Lawfare Project investigates
Dear friends,
As you may know, Jewish synagogues, memorials, and cemeteries, among other important sites, have long been victims of vandalism across the country.
The City of Los Angeles, in particular, has seen blatant anti-Semitism fuel the destruction of countless Jewish properties. Most recently, rioters spray painted a local synagogue with the words "F**k Israel" during a day of rage and aggression.
To take a stand against these attacks, The Lawfare Project has sent public information requests to the LAPD and LA Mayor Eric Garcetti's Office under the California Public Records Act (CPRA). This will allow us to uncover how the city has handled the desecration of synagogues and frenzied rioting in LA's Fairfax District, a predominantly Jewish neighborhood.
With this information, we will assess whether there was any disparity in treatment between Jewish and non-Jewish communities that indicates a violation of civil rights.
Amidst a slew of riots and looting, we have seen an increase in anti-Semitic attacks, damage to holy spaces, and unfounded hostility towards the Jewish community. Right now, Jewish Americans deserve proper protection from their local governments to offset the rise in dangerous hate crimes.
We at The Lawfare Project are committed to the equal treatment of all Americans, especially when it comes to the security of their neighborhoods. Through our CPRA request, we will investigate whether or not the city of Los Angeles is effectively protecting its Jewish residents, and we will take the necessary actions to ensure their safety.
None of this would be possible without supporters like you. Thank you for helping The Lawfare Project combat anti-Semitic discrimination wherever it manifests. We appreciate your commitment to this vital cause.
Sincerely,
Brooke Goldstein
