The Lawfare Project congratulates Maxo Benalal, elected congressman of Ibiza to the Balearic State Congress

The Lawfare Project congratulates Maxo Benalal, who was elected congressman of Ibiza to the Balearic State Congress this past Sunday, May 26, 2019.

Benalal—who ran for Congress for the liberal party ("Ciudadanos")—was the plaintiff in lawsuits filed by The Lawfare Project and its Spanish counsel. These cases were brought against city councils throughout Spain that adopted policies of boycotting Israel. All of these cases successfully resulted in the nullification of the boycotts on the grounds of equality before the law and non-discrimination.

The Lawfare Project is grateful and honored by Benalal's support both as a colleague and a friend. We are certain that he will be an asset to the State Congress in Majorca with his background as a businessman, his experience as a law practitioner in several countries, and his keen concern for free speech and the constitutional safeguards of individual liberties.

Benalal, who studied law in Montpellier (France) and is fluent in five languages, is the current chairman of the Jewish Community of Ibiza.
