Announcing the Campus Civil Rights Project!
The Lawfare Project is thrilled to announce a major new initiative: the Campus Civil Rights Project (CCRP). Coordinated by attorney Lori Tucker, CCRP will work to preserve and defend the civil rights of the Jewish community on America’s college campuses. Like never before, our students, student groups, and faculty will have access to a free legal resource to advocate for them. The Lawfare Project has been enforcing civil rights on U.S. campuses through a number of actions, including our most recent efforts assisting CUNY professor Michael Goldstein in combatting harassment and discrimination on his campus. This is in addition to our groundbreaking lawsuits against San Francisco State University, together with the law firm Winston & Strawn LLP, and our ongoing state and federal cases against CUNY on behalf of professor Jeffrey Lax, with co-counsel Corey Stark.
Anti-Semitism and the demonization of Israel have become an all-too-common part of today’s campus environment. Jewish and Israeli students, student groups, and faculty are regularly threatened, marginalized, and harassed. In far too many instances, school administrators turn a blind eye to this hostile environment or contribute to it by failing to enforce school policies.
The Lawfare Project aids Jewish and Zionist students, professors, and campus groups whose fundamental civil liberties have been violated in several ways:
We engage with school administrators by bringing harassment and threats to their attention; ensuring the proper enforcement of school policies; and encouraging leaders on campus to publicly condemn any and all forms of discrimination against Jews.
We support students, providing guidance about how to interact with school administrators and helping them to determine steps for remedying a hostile environment both inside and outside of the classroom.
We work with partners to generate visibility and publicity about the anti-Semitic incidents perpetrated on college campuses.
We take legal action to ensure that schools live up to their legal obligations to protect Jewish students from anti-Semitic harassment, intimidation, and discrimination.
Join us as we work to make America’s college campuses safe for Jewish and Zionist students. Click here to access an easy online form for any student, professor, or campus group to reach out with their concerns. You can also share issues with us on social media using the hashtag #hatefreecampus.
With gratitude for your continued partnership,
