This week, Nobel Peace Prize recipient Malala Yousafzai announced a $50,000 to rebuild schools in Gaza, which will be channeled through the United Nations Relief & Works Agency (UNRWA). An outspoken promoter of education for girls in Pakistan, Malala was shot in the head by the Taliban for her advocacy.
The Lawfare Project urges Malala to reconsider this donation. Not only have UNRWA schools repeatedly been used to store Hamas rockets, but the well-documented curriculum of incitement, indoctrination, and dehumanization taught in Gazan UNRWA schools and summer campus breeds exactly what Malala has dedicated herself to opposing (and fell victim to): a culture of violence and extremism at the expense of knowledge and safety.
According to numerous reports:
- UNRWA-operated schools have hired members of Hamas as faculty, and classrooms serve as recruiting grounds for children to be used in armed conflict.
- UNRWA employees have delivered weapons to Hamas.
- Hamas has launched rockets from the roofs of UNRWA schools.
- UNRWA spokesperson Christopher Gunness promoted terror-apologist Dr. Mads Gilbert despite his support of the “moral right” of al-Qaeda to attack the United States on 9/11.
Malala wisely opined that “without education, there will never be peace.” Surely the “education” to which she referred excludes the systematic grooming of children for recruitment into the ranks of a U.S. designated terrorist organization, ultimately to be disposed of as suicide bombers and human shields.
