Anti-Jewish hostility at major Christian hospital system
The Lawfare Project represented a Jewish trauma surgeon at a major hospital system with Christian affiliation, who was subjected to an environment of religious hostility following complaints about Easter emails containing Biblical verses that for centuries have been used to denigrate Jews and to justify Jew hatred and allegations of deicide.
The surgeon’s requests for intervention from upper management at the hospital were met with retaliatory measures, escalating the already hostile work environment and raising serious issues of harassment under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. After a lengthy mediation following the filing of an EEOC complaint and extensive negotiation, The Lawfare Project reached an extremely favorable settlement agreement with the hospital. The agreement provides for significant monetary compensation for the surgeon's struggles, as well as various protections from future retaliation. Moreover, the hospital has agreed to never again disseminate the offensive emails. This represents a win for all current and future healthcare professionals working at the hospital.
As The Lawfare Project works to hold employers accountable and bring justice to the Jewish community, we hope to lay the foundation for better work standards that treat all individuals with respect and tolerance.
