Jewish student awarded settlement for anti-Semitic discrimination at School of Oriental and African Studies at London University
A Jewish student had to withdraw from the School of Oriental and African Studies at London University (SOAS) due to anti-Semitic bullying and intimidation. He was targeted relentlessly: peers verbally attacked him for expressing his Zionist views in class, he was accused of being a “white supremacist Nazi,” a classmate accosted him for supporting the Jewish right to self-determination, and more. An investigation ensued but only examined one particular incident, failing to address the broader culture of anti-Jewish discrimination on campus.
The Lawfare Project and UKLFI Charitable Trust are proud to have assisted the student in appealing the investigation’s findings and pursuing justice for the SOAS Jewish community at large. The student receiving a £15,000 settlement and the university’s Appeal Panel recommended a continued investigation by an independent panel into the anti-Semitic climate at SOAS.
