VICTORY! Lawfare Project announces settlement of swastika case

The Lawfare Project — together with New Jersey-based Hillary Freeman, Esq. of Freeman Law Offices, LLC and Nevada-based attorney Lori Rogich of Rogich Law Firm, PLLC — have reached a settlement agreement with the Clark County School District (CCSD) for alleged state and federal civil rights violations on behalf of a Jewish student who was the victim of an alleged antisemitic attack last year at Clark High School.

The student, who is autistic and nonverbal, did not receive the special education support he was entitled to under federal and state regulations. He was pulled from classes after his mother discovered a swastika carved into his back and realized he was not safe in his school environment.

“No child should live in fear because of an unsafe educational environment,” said Brooke Goldstein, founder and Executive Director of The Lawfare Project. “This abhorrent and disgusting attack on our client should have never happened, and moving forward, we hope that the Clark County School District will ensure the safety of all their Jewish students.”

The settlement includes monetary compensation and educational services outside of the school to ensure that the student continues to learn in a safe environment.

“Today’s agreement is a step in the right direction towards holding CCSD accountable for its failure to ensure a Jewish autistic student’s safety and provide him with the special education he is entitled to under the law,” said Ziporah Reich, Director of Litigation at The Lawfare Project. “Both the monetary compensation and educational services we have secured on behalf of the student will bring some measure of justice to the student and his family.”
